"Surveyor" is not a protected title. "Chartered Surveyor", MRICS and FRICS are — those require RICS membership, which brings regulation, insurance requirements and a complaints route.
How to check
RICS Find a Surveyor lists regulated firms by location and service. Note that ordering is partly commercial, with paid promotion tiers, so treat the order as advertising rather than ranking.
What to ask for
Confirm they are RICS-regulated and ask what redress you have if the report misses something.
Worth knowing. The valuation your lender commissions is not a survey and does not protect you.
