Listed because each one could be traced to a primary source on the date shown. That is a check on who they are, not a recommendation — it says nothing about the quality of anyone's work. Use the questions below before you hire.

What the rules say

It is against the law for anyone to work on gas appliances or pipework in your home unless they are on the Gas Safe Register. This is not a quality badge — it is a legal requirement, and the only one of its kind in the trades.

How to check

Search the register by your postcode, or check an individual engineer by the 7-digit licence number on their ID card. You can also text the word Gas followed by that number to 85080.

What to ask for

Ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card before work starts. The back lists exactly which gas work they are qualified for — a boiler engineer is not automatically qualified for gas fires or commercial catering.

Worth knowing. The card has a start and expiry date. An expired card means the registration has lapsed, whatever the front says.
