Listed because each one could be traced to a primary source on the date shown. That is a check on who they are, not a recommendation — it says nothing about the quality of anyone's work. Use the questions below before you hire.

Where you stand

What the rules say

Plumbing itself is unregulated in the UK. Anyone can call themselves a plumber. The moment the job touches a gas boiler or gas pipework, Gas Safe registration becomes a legal requirement — so a plumber who is not Gas Safe registered cannot lawfully touch your boiler.

How to check

For anything involving gas, check Gas Safe. For everything else there is no register to check. The Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering runs a members' directory, but that is paid membership with a voluntary code, not a licence.

What to ask for

Ask whether the job touches the boiler or any gas pipe. If it does, ask for the Gas Safe card.

Worth knowing. "Fully qualified" and "insured" are not regulated claims. Anyone can say them.
